They launched nuclear missiles from orbital stations and planetary surfaces without warning to decimate the Formic fleet. This tactic proved devastatingly effective against the alien ships, destroying the entire invasion force and securing a victory for mankind despite heavy casualties. However, the war was not truly over with this battle. A separate scout ship, sent earlier and not part of the destroyed fleet, later reached Earth.
