The Formics originated on a distant world and expanded across the galaxy by consuming all life they encountered, believing it was necessary for their survival. Unlike humans, who rely on individual thought and often deceive one another, every Formic acts as a single entity. This lack of deception meant that when they attacked Earth, humanity interpreted their actions as pure malice rather than a desperate attempt at communication or resource acquisition. The First Bug War ended only after the Formics were driven out, but they returned in force during the Second Bug War, nearly wiping out human civilization before the fictional Battle School graduated its first genius.

In Their Own Story

In the silent void between stars, a lone Formic Queen drifted through the wreckage of her own fleet. For the first time in eons, the constant hum of the Hive was gone, replaced by an agonizing silence where individual thoughts should have been. She remembered the fire that consumed their worlds and the strange, two-legged creatures who fought with such chaotic cruelty. When the hive was destroyed by Ender Wiggin's final attack, the remaining Formics lost their connection to each other, reducing them from an unstoppable empire to isolated individuals struggling to survive in a universe they no longer understood.
